Thailand and Myanmar have achieved another milestone in their joint efforts to establish a clear boundary between the two countries. On 18 - 19 May 2017, Technical Officers of both sides held the Meeting in Chiang Mai and approved the orthophoto maps of their border areas which have been jointly produced.
The joint production of orthophoto maps was mandated by Thailand – Myanmar Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) and was launched in January this year. They will serve as an important tool in the boundary survey and demarcation works.
Thailand shares the longest border with Myanmar stretching over 2,400 kilometres. In an era of the ASEAN Community and Connectivity, the border has become a strategic area with growing importance both in terms of security and economy. Both countries are committed to expediting the boundary negotiations, moving forward hand in hand for the common security and prosperity of the peoples.
The production of orthophoto maps was jointly carried out by the Royal Thai Survey Department of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and Myanmar’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with warm hospitality.
