Following Mr. Emmanuel Macron’s election as the President of the French Republic on 7 May 2017, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect as follows:

Your substantial victory and progressive direction are reflective of how the French people have placed their confidence in you to lead the country forward. I extend to you my best wishes for your success in this regard.
For 161 years, the Kingdom of Thailand and the French Republic have enjoyed close and friendly relations. Our long-standing ties have evolved into a “Strategic Partnership” based on common interests in a number of important areas.
I am confident that the relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the French Republic will be strengthened under your leadership. I look forward to working closely with you to reinforce our mutual beneficial ties for the prosperity of our two countries and peoples.
