As a committed State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), Thailand deems any use of chemical weapons unacceptable, particularly the indiscriminate use that causes casualty and death of the innocents. In this regard, we are deeply saddened to learn about the latest use of chemical weapons in Syria on 4 April 2017, which led to 58 deaths, most of whom are civilians and children.
Thailand is also deeply concerned of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and encourages all parties, regardless of their affiliations, to consider giving speedy humanitarian and medical assistance to those in need.
Thailand urges all concerned parties to abide by and respect UN Charter, relevant UNSC resolutions and international law. We also encourage all parties concerned to continue to explore dialogue and diplomatic means with a view to achieving peaceful and lasting solution to the problem.
