On 23 March 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in cooperation with Thailand Foundation will launch the “Street Food Phuket”, “Street Food Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai”, and “Street Food Bangkok (Mandarin)” applications in the Narathip Auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand at 18.00 hrs. The applications are an interactive compilation of popular restaurants in different cities in Thailand and will not only help expose the exotic flavors of Thai cuisine but also act as a helpful companion for those travelling the country. Users have praised the application for its utility and ease of use. The application supports the government policy of encouraging tourism and promotes Thailand’s “Kitchen to the World” project.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thailand Foundation first launched “Street Food Bangkok” in 2015 and expanded with “Street Food Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai” in 2016 with both applications having drawn in roughly 10,000 users. “Street Food Phuket” is the latest addition to the series and implements new features like the ability to group similar restaurants to better facilitate users. Other new features include the use of the Mandarin language which will help introduce a larger selection of Thai food to Chinese tourists, one of Thailand’s biggest groups of visitors. The applications are available for free for Android and IOS.
