H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, is scheduled to attend the 2nd Mekong - Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting which will be held on 23rd December 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

At the Meeting to be Co-Chaired by Cambodia and China, Ministers will review the progress made towards the realization of the outcomes of the 1st Mekong - Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting especially in the area of mechanism building through the establishment of the sectoral joint working groups in key priority areas identified and the implementation of early harvest projects according to the list agreed upon by the Leaders.  The Meeting will also discuss the future direction of this framework in order to maintain the dynamism of
the cooperation among the 6 Member Countries and achieve tangible results.

The Mekong - Lancang Cooperation was officially launched at the 1st Leaders’ Meeting on 23 March 2016 in Sanya, Hainan, China, which was co-chaired by the Thai Prime Minister, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, and the Chinese Premier of State Council, H.E. Mr. Li Keqiang, and attended by the Leaders from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Viet Nam.  The goal of this framework is to sustainably develop the Mekong sub-region by reducing the developmental disparities among its Member Countries and between the Mekong sub-region and the outside world, with a view to strengthening the ASEAN Community.   Exemplary of the South-South cooperation that endeavors to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Mekong - Lancang Cooperation is not only result-driven, but also strives to complement and add value to the existing efforts in other frameworks.
