On 11 October 2016, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, welcomed Mr. Hwang Kyo-anh, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK), during his first official visit to Thailand to attend the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue Summit in Bangkok.

Both sides were pleased with progress of bilateral cooperation and looked forward to the completion of the Blueprint for Korea - Thailand Economic Cooperation Initiatives that would set a 5-year direction for economic cooperation between the two countries.

On trade, both sides agreed to resume the Joint Trade Commission (JTC) in order to find ways to increase bilateral trade at the earliest possibility. Prime Minister of ROK also assured that ROK will make every effort in lifting ban on Thai frozen chicken as soon as possible. The ROK will also consider importing more amounts of rubber from Thailand.

On investment, both sides welcomed the launches of a bilateral working group on the Lower Huai Luang River Basin Development Project and a bilateral working group on rail cooperation that includes development of East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) rail route.

At the end of meeting, both Prime Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of two bilateral documents, which included:

2. Agreement to extend the Memorandum of Understand on Cooperation in the Railways Sector -- which will extend cooperation on the development of Thailand’s railway systems for another 2 years through institutional cooperation and exchange of knowledge with the ROK
