Following a severe flooding in the northeastern region of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), which, according to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), has resulted in the loss of at least 133 lives with nearly 400 or more still missing, displacement of over 100,000 people, and considerable damage to buildings and critical infrastructure, the Royal Thai Government has made an emergency donation of US$30,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support its ongoing humanitarian operations in the affected areas.
H.E. Mr. Theerakun Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to the DPRK, with residence in Beijing, presented the donation to Ms. Gwendolyn Pang, Head of Country Cluster Support Team, IFRC Office Beijing, on 28 September 2016.
