During 9 – 10 August 2016, H.E. Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic will pay an official visit to Thailand.

In the morning of 10 August 2016, His Excellency Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith will pay a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister, at the Government House. Prior to that, in the afternoon of 9 August 2016, Lao PDR Foreign Minister will also pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two Ministers are expected to discuss various topics of mutual interest, including the promotion of overall bilateral relations as well as the follow-up on the outcome of the discussion between the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR during the Lao PDR Prime Minister’s official visit to Thailand on 5 – 6 July 2016. The topics of discussion are, for example, regional connectivity; promotion of cross-border tourism; improvement and enforcement of relevant rules and regulations; boundary demarcation as well as cooperation on energy, labour, and science and technology. 

This visit is H.E. Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith’s first trip to Thailand as Foreign Minister, which will provide an opportunity for the two Foreign Ministers to familiarize with each other and to follow up on the outcome of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR to Thailand. This will pave the way for the 3rd Thailand – Lao PDR Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR) and the 21st Thailand – Lao PDR Joint Commission (JC) in the Lao PDR. in the future.
