On 1 July 2016, Thai community and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver participated in the Canada Day parade to celebrate the national day of Canada and to show case cultural diversity, national heritage and Thai ways of life to the Canadians and foreign residents in Vancouver.
Approximately 150 members of the Thai community in Vancouver and nearby cities as well as Friends of Thailand participated in this event. The Thai parade this year comprised Thai float beautifully decorated with paper umbrellas from northern part of Thailand, traditional Thai tri-cycle, performers of Thai dances and Thai long drums, as well as procession of Thai traditional costumes made from various types of Thai fabrics in different patterns. The Thai costumes procession this year was specially prepared to commemorate the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 12 August 2016, whose tireless work and lifelong dedication significantly contributed to the revival and development of Thai silk.
The participation of the Thai Community in the Canada Day parade was an opportunity for many Thais who live, work, and study there to express their appreciation to Canada as an amicable host country.
