During 19 – 20 June 2016, His Excellency Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his delegations paid an introductory visit to the Kingdom of Thailand. The visit was seen as very timely in maintaining the momentum of excellent relations under the term Partnership for Peace and Prosperity between Thailand and Cambodia. The visit also served to expedite the ongoing cooperation on key issues as agreed at the official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the 2nd Joint Cabinet Retreat held in Bangkok during 18 – 19 December 2015. 

On 20 June 2016 at 09.00 hrs., His Excellency Mr. Prak Sokhonn paid a courtesy call on His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Government House. Both sides welcomed the current cordial and constructive relations emphasizing on maintaining and promoting development and connectivity along the border areas, enhancing cooperation in bilateral trade and investment, tourism, special economic zones, energy, labour, upgrading border checkpoints to new international points of entry, and people to people contacts.

Thereafter, His Excellency Mr. Prak Sokhonn had a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. In the spirit of partnership, both Foreign Ministers discussed comprehensively, on wide range of issues, including the acceleration of the opening of the new international point of entry at Nong Ian – Stung Bot, promoting bilateral trade and investment, as well as strengthening cooperation in education, labour, culture, tourism, agriculture, combating illegal logging and human trafficking, community development, public health, and connectivity by land, sea, and air between the two countries as well as cooperation in the regional and international fora. They looked forward to expediting and providing impetus to these cooperative endeavors at the 10th Joint Commission between Thailand and Cambodia to be co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers in August 2016 in Thailand. They also pledged to work together for the success of the 3rd Joint Cabinet Retreat in Cambodia in late 2016.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Pramudwinai hosted luncheon in honour of H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Cambodian delegation at the Ministry.

The Cambodian delegation expressed their deep appreciation to the Government of Thailand for the warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to them during their stay in Bangkok and for the excellent arrangement made for Cambodian delegation during the introductory visit.
