Ambassador of South Africa to Thailand bids farewell to Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 27 May 2016, H.E. Ms. Robina Patricia Marks, Ambassador of South Africa to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to bid farewell upon the completion of her tenure in Thailand.

The South African Ambassador thanked the Ministry for the cooperation during her term in Thailand and is pleased that the relations between Thailand and South Africa have always been close and cordial.

On this occasion, both sides discussed various issues of mutual interest. In the area of economic cooperation, Thailand is South Africa’s largest trading partner in ASEAN while South Africa remains Thailand’s largest trading partner in Africa. Both sides attach great importance to the signing of bilateral agreements and MoUs, and also discussed further cooperation in the international fora. For tourism, Thailand is one of the most favourite destinations for South African tourists, with over 75,000 South Africans visiting Thailand last year.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation for the South African Ambassador’s role in promoting overall bilateral relations and reaffirmed his readiness to work with her successor in maintaining the warm and friendly relations existing between Thailand and South Africa.
