The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand will host the 3rd Thailand-Pacific Island Countries Forum (TPIF) on May 20-21 2016 at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok under the theme “Inclusive Partnership for Sustainable Development and Thai Experiences on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended invitations to delegations from 14 Pacific Island countries; namely the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, most of whom are attending
the 72nd Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
Observers from Embassies, such as Australia and New Zealand, along with other International Organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organization (WHO) and Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat are also invited to participate in the platform to achieve its aim of promoting the framework of development cooperation between Thailand and countries in the South Pacific.
Since its conception in 2014, TPIF has been serving as a conducive platform for high-level delegations to exchange views, share experiences and best practices, and to deepen as well as broaden development cooperation between Thailand and our Pacific Island partners.
The 3rd TPIF is a high-level meeting for discussion and exchange of views on sustainable and social development as well as economic cooperation to stimulate opinions and further promote cooperation under the Three-Year TPIF Development Partnership Program (2015-2017). The Forum will be followed by site visits to showcase Thailand’s best practices on sufficiency economy as well as community empowerment and development. The Delegations will have an opportunity to visit one of Thailand’s leading organic farms at Sampran Riverside and learn about community development at Ban Hua Ao Community Learning Center in Nakhorn Pathom Province.
Being one of the twelve dialogue partners in the Post Forum Dialogue (PFD) and an unceasing participant of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Thailand has enjoyed cordial ties with our Pacific Island partners in both bilateral and multilateral levels. For nearly two decades, Thailand has been a long-standing development partner of this region, through development cooperation program, particularly for human resources development in the Pacific Island countries. In the spirit of South-South Cooperation, Thailand reiterates our commitment to sharing our experiences and to helping the development of our Pacific Island partners.
