          On 17 May 2015, H.E. Mr. Damba Gankhuyag, State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, met with H.E. Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Thailand to attend the 72nd Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) between 16 – 19 May 2016.

          During the meeting, Mr. Vitavas welcomed the Mongolian State Secretary and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to further strengthen Thai – Mongolian relations, especially on promoting bilateral cooperation in many potential areas, including technical cooperation, trade and investment. Both sides concurred that the first meeting of the Consultative Body on Bilateral Cooperation should be convened on the mutually agreed dates at the earliest opportunity. The Consultative Body is a bilateral mechanism established in 2013, serving as a key mechanism to help move forward all areas of cooperation. At the same time, they noted with satisfaction the regular exchanges and meetings between the two countries.

          Furthermore, the two sides discussed ways to further deepen cooperation within multilateral frameworks. In this regard, Thailand expressed full support to Mongolia as the host of the 11th ASEM Summit of Heads of State and Government (ASEM 11), which the Thai Prime Minister is scheduled to attend on 15 – 16 July 2016 in Ulaanbaatar. The Thai side also reiterated the invitation extended to the Mongolian side to attend the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit in Thailand later this October. In addition, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting each other in multilateral frameworks including the Group of 77 with Thailand as the Chair for this year and other frameworks of the United Nations.
