On 23 February 2016, Mr. Miroslav Jenča, UN Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for Political Affairs paid a courtesy call on Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of Mr. Jenca’s first visit to Thailand as the newly appointed United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Suvat Chirapant, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Ms. Pornprapai Ganjanarintr, Director-General of the Department of International Organisation.

          During the meeting, both sides discussed various issues including the development on Thailand’s political roadmap, the comprehensive partnership between ASEAN and the UN, Thailand’s Chairmanship of the Group of 77 (G77), irregular migration in the Indian Ocean, and extremism.
