Thailand hosted the 3rd Thai-Swiss Political Consultation

On 19 February 2016, H.E. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Deputy Permanent Secretary, and H.E. Mr.Johannes Matyassy, Assistant State Secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, co-chaired the 3rd Thai-Swiss Political Consultations held at Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade, particularly on agricultural products and food, Swiss investment in Thailand, and the FTA between Thailand and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) which comprises Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Both sides also expected to boost up technical cooperation in fields of tourism, hotel management, renewable energy, innovation and technology. On other issues, Thailand and Switzerland were interested in exchanging information and experiences on democracy, good governance, anti-corruption and migration issues. The Political Consultation was followed by a luncheon hosted by the Deputy Permanent Secretary.

The Thai-Swiss Political Consultation is a mechanism aiming to set the direction of the relations and cooperation, on bilateral and multilateral issues of the two countries. It is also served as a platform for both sides to exchange views on regional agenda, in which both sides are able to explore common interests.
