The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Department of State will organise the 5 th Thai – U.S. Strategic Dialogue on 16 December 2015 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok, Thailand. H.E. Mr. Apichart Chinwanno, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Daniel R. Russel, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs will jointly be co-chairs of this Dialogue.
The Dialogue will be held under the context of a more positive and constructive relationship between Thailand and the U.S. Both sides will use this opportunity to enhance their bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interests including defense and security; trade and investment; education; science and energy. Both sides will also underscore their cooperation which will benefit the development of the regional and global levels such as public health; human trafficking and irregular migration; transnational crime; and peacekeeping activity. Furthermore, both sides will also discuss some regional issues of mutual interests, including the issue on South China Sea; the cooperation in ASEAN and; LMI as well as current developments in Thailand’s neighbouring countries.
The Thai – U.S. Strategic Dialogue was first held in 2005. This bilateral dialogue is the channel and mechanism to ensure understanding and trust between both sides. This Dialogue aims to discuss and exchange views and information which are related to the issue of politics, security, economics, socio – culture and the regional and global issues of Thai and the U.S. have the common interests.
