Deputy Minister of Transport of Thailand together with Thai Ambassador to Brazil attended the 2nd High-Level Global Conference on Road Safety

            During 18 – 19 November 2015, H.E. Mr. Ormsin Chivapruck, Deputy Minister of Transport of Thailand and H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil, led high-level officials from Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Public Health, professors from National Health Commission, WHO Collaborating Center for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, to attend the 2nd High-Level Global Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia, co-organized by the Government of Brazil and the United Nations.  
 
            The main objective of this conference was to raise awareness of all the nations to reduce road accidents and to increase safety for road and transportation usages.   H.E. Mrs. Dilma Rousseff, the President of Brazil and Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director of World Health Organization also presided over the opening ceremony. Afterwards, Ministers and high-level representatives delivered remarks at the session. More than 2,500 delegates from 120 countries worldwide also participated in the said conference.  
 
            During the conference, the Deputy Minister of Transportation of Thailand was invited to be the honorary speaker in two panel discussions, namely (1) Motorcycle Safety and (2) Attaining the road safety target by 2030. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister held the constructive discussion with Mr. Christian Friis Bach, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, to find ways and means to promote the usage of good quality helmet and road safety.   
 
The conference also marked another milestone for the WHO and UN, where the leaders announced the Brasilia Decoration on Road Safety, with the aims to: 
            (1) Create an awareness that road accident is one of the major causes of lost and health of humanity. The Road Safety is one of the crucial factors for the sustainable development;
            (2) Stress the importance of gender equality in the context of road safety; 
            (3) Recommend actions to promote safer roads and the use of sustainable modes of transportation as follows, 3.1) better road safety management, 3.2) safer road and commute system, 3.3) safer transportations, 3.4) the safer road users and 3.5) the handling services after the accident.
