On 16 November 2015, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudvinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Japanese counterpart, H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, during their visit to Manila to attend the 27th APEC Ministerial Meeting held on 16-17 November 2015. At the bilateral meeting, both Thailand and Japan reaffirmed their cordial relations as friends and strategic partners.

The Japanese Foreign Minister conveyed his condolences with regards to the Ratchaprasong incident and expressed appreciation to the Royal Thai Government for assisting the Japanese victims. He also reassured Japan’s readiness to work closely with Thailand on key economic projects such as the development of SEZs, investment in super clusters, and investment in rail transport infrastructure.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed the safety of Japanese tourists as well as the commitment to promote a business environment conducive to foreign investment. He also emphasized the government’s determination in moving the country forward on the comprehensive reform path, while enhancing cooperation with Japan in potential cooperative areas including education, science and technology, and agriculture. 

Both sides recognised the constructive bilateral relations, and looked forward to the exchange of high-level visits. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to meet H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Japanese Prime Minister, during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, while H.E. Mr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister, will pay an official visit to Japan on 25-28 Novermber 2015.
