Thailand to host the 2nd Mekong – Lancang Cooperation Senior Officials’ Meeting

          The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand will host the 2nd Mekong – Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Senior Officials’ Meeting during 20 – 21 August 2015 at Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai. The meeting will be co-chaired by Mr. Noppadon Theppitak,                       Deputy Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China. Representatives from all member countries including Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Thailand and China will also attend the meeting.

          The objective of this Meeting is to discuss the Concept Paper of the establishment of the Mekong – Lancang Cooperation which will be endorsed during the 1st Foreign Ministers’ Meeting , Jinghong City in Yunnan Province on 11 October 2015.

          The Mekong – Lancang Cooperation is originally Thailand’s initiative to promote continued growth and sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region. Cooperation under this framework encompasses all key areas in line with those under ASEAN. The Mekong – Lancang Cooperation aims at sharing responsibility, building sustainable development, and promoting social and cultural harmony in the region in order to narrow development gaps and support ASEAN Community building.

          Moreover, this Senior Officials’ Meeting is also an opportunity to discuss the way forward and possibly to begin early harvest projects that are able to deliver concrete results and immediate importation.
