On 10 August 2015, ASEAN Committee in Lima (ACL), which consists of Embassy of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand in cooperation with Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center of Ministry of External Relations of Peru organized an activity to celebrate the anniversary of ASEAN (ASEAN Day).
This activity was aimed at promoting ASEAN knowledge as well as ASEAN identity through exhibitions and cultural shows. In this occasion the Ambassador of Malaysia as ACL’s chairman gave an introduction speech about history of ASEAN and progress of ASEAN Community, including ASEAN important policies, potential and cooperation between ASEAN and Peru.
Participated in the event as the guest of honour, Mrs. Ana Maria Sanchez Vargas, Minister of External Relations of Peru stated that ASEAN is the most successful integration organization in Asia. Peru wishes to strengthen relations and cooperation with ASEAN. The economic potential of ASEAN is internationally regarded as economic driving force of free trade area combining strategic partners like China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand. The Pacific Alliance is interested to cooperate with in areas such as trade and investment, monetary, food security and energy.
During the event, each embassy set up its mobile exhibitions. Arts and crafts had been displayed while information brochures were distributed to all guests. The Royal Thai Embassy presented to the audience Thai dance as part of the cultural show. Each embassy also provided some 1-2 types of national appetizers for guests to taste.
This activity created the sense of cooperation and unity among ASEAN member representatives in Lima and also cooperation between ACL and cultural institute under the Ministry of External Relations of Peru. The activity of ASEAN Day is the main annual activity of ASEAN Committee in Lima (ACL). The event has been reported to public by many leading Peruvian media.
