On 15th July 2015, H.E. Mr. Don Promudwinai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered a statement at the 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development (3rd FfD) under the United Nations framework. The conference was held in Addis Ababa, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
In his statement, he highlighted Thailand’s endeavor in financing developments, its success in transforming the country’s status from a low-income to a middle-income one, and the achievement in meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), by adopting comprehensive measures including improving tax collection efficiency, supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), enhancing partnership between public and private sectors and promoting people centred development based on community’s need, wisdom and cultural heritage.
The Deputy Minister spelled out the government’s policies guided by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s sufficiency Economy Philosophy to develop the country for long lasting stability, prosperity and sustainability. Also, he reiterated that for over a decade, Thailand has been playing an active role as a donor country and a bridge builder between developed and developing countries.
The 3rd FfD aims to explore concrete solution in raising and utilizing fund effectively to achieve the MDGs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 3rd Ffd is one of the four essential conferences of the United Nations in 2015 which compose of (1) the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on 15 - 18 March 2015 in Sendai, Japan; (2) the 3rd FfD on 13 - 16 July 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; (3) the Post-2015 Summit on 25 -27 September 2015 in New York, USA; (4) the 21st Session of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 11th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol in December 2015 in Paris, France.
