“Excellency,

         Today, I have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing away of your father, His Excellency Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Founding Father of the Singapore nation and the First Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I wish to sincerely express my profound condolences to you and your family, and through you, to the people of Singapore for this irreplaceable loss.

       We in Thailand will respectably remember Mr. Lee Kuan Yew for his exemplary statesmanship whose resoluteness, sacrifice, and far-sighted vision has successfully transformed Singapore into a modern and prosperous nation, along with his significant contribution to building close ties of friendship between Thailand and Singapore with the establishment of our diplomatic relations 50 years ago.

         By laying a solid foundation in the development of Singapore based on the principles of good governance, meritocracy, and placing community before oneself, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew has left an indelible legacy on the Singapore nation and its people. These invaluable fundamentals will continue to live on in the spirit of the Singapore nation for many more generations to come.
