General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend the High-Level Segment of the 28th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28 February to 5 March 2015.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will deliver a statement to the Council on 2 March 2015, and will meet with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration and the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, to discuss cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations mechanisms. The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also meet with dignitaries from other countries to strengthen bilateral relations.
The United Nations Human Rights Council is mandated to monitor human rights situation worldwide, advocate for the promotion and protection of human rights, as well as provide technical cooperation and capacity building in the field of human rights. Since its inception in 2006, Thailand has been playing a constructive role in the Council, bridging differences among member states, forging cooperation and consensus. Thailand served as a member of the Human Rights Council from 2010-2013, during which time Thailand was elected to serve as the President of the Council in 2010-2011.
