On 17 February 2015, Mrs. Jocelyn S. Batoon-Garcia, Ambassador of the Philippines to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the completion of her tenure as Ambassador.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs commended the Ambassador for her active role in promoting cordial ties between two sides, especially in the area of education and people-to-people exchanges and reiterated his readiness to work with her successor.
Both sides valued the long-standing ties between Thailand and the Philippines, especially in the areas of trade and investment, defence, and ASEAN affairs. Both sides further expressed their readiness to push forward the pending issues such as the convening of the 6th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) and the 1st Joint Trade Committee (JTC) within this year, as well as to expedite the conclusion of pending agreements/MOUs, such as the MOU on the Defense Industry Co-operation between the two sides as well as the Air Services Agreement.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to pay an official visit to the Philippines at the earliest opportunity, which the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs accepted with thanks.
On this occasion and on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs handed 100,000 USD to the Government of the Philippines for the disaster relief of the victims from Typhoon Hagupit. He also conveyed that the Royal Thai Government is in the process of delivering 500 tons of rice for the victims.
