On 9 February 2015, H.E. Mr. Suvat Chirapant, Deputy Permanent Secretary as Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, hosted a luncheon for Australian students visiting Thailand under the Australian Thai Youth Ambassador Programme (ATYAP). H.E. Mr. Paul Robilliard, Australian Ambassador, Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Mr. Damrit Viriyakul, Regional Editor in Chief of Thairath newspaper, and Ministry officials were also present.
During their visit from 15 January - 14 February 2015, 37 Australian students had engaged in volunteering activities including teaching English at 11 primary and secondary schools in Ubon Ratchathani. The objective was to give both Thai and Australian students an opportunity to learn and exchange their culture. The ATYAP was organized by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney and supported by the Australia-Thailand Institute. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports such project since it will not only contribute to the promotion of cultural exchanges but also people-to-people contact between Thailand and Australia.
