The Royal Thai Government and the Government of Japan will co-host the Third Green Mekong Forum on 25 December 2014 at the InterContinental Hotel Bangkok, Thailand.

The forum is part of the activities under Mekong-Japan Cooperation. It aims at promoting cooperation on sustainable development and raising awareness on environmental concerns between Japan and the Mekong countries including Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.  The decision to hold this Forum was made at the Sixth Mekong-Japan Summit in November 2014.

The Third Green Mekong Forum will be co-chaired by Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Director-General, Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Mr. Shigeki Takizaki, Deputy Director-General for the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The Forum will focus on “Improvement of Urban Environment” and “Disaster Risk Reduction and Response to Disasters”.  Keynote speakers are representatives from government agencies, JICA, local authorities (City of Kitakyushu and Bangkok Metropolis), private companies and academic institutions from Japan and the Mekong countries.

Participants will exchange views on environmental issues and challenges facing the Mekong region, in line with the Mekong-Japan Cooperation’s “Action Plan for ‘A Decade towards the Green Mekong’ Initiative”, adopted at the First Mekong-Japan Summit in 2009.
