On 13 November 2014 at 11.45 - 12.45 hrs., H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, attended the 2nd ASEAN - U.S. Summit at Myanmar International Convention Center 1 (MICC-1) in Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. H.E. U Thein Sein, President of the Republic of Union of Myanmar chaired the meeting. Also in attendance were the ASEAN Leaders and the Hon. Barack Obama, President of the United States.

The meeting followed-up on development of the ASEAN - U.S. relations, discussed future direction with a view toward elevating the ASEAN - US relations into strategic partnership, and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

The Prime Minister of Thailand expressed views on the future directions of ASEAN - U.S. Dialogue Relations as follows; (1) ASEAN should support constructive role of the U.S. in the region while the U.S. could reinforce ASEAN centrality in promoting peace, stability and prosperity and (2) Both sides should strengthen cooperation in all dimensions to promote regional stability, particularly economic growth and sustainable economic development partnership in developing agriculture and SME development, non-traditional security and transnational challenges such as trafficking in persons, climate change, Ebola,  including  youth and human resources development.

In addition, the Leaders adopted the ASEAN - U.S. Joint Statement on Climate Change, which is the key deliverable of this Summit, expressing political will to address our common and pressing concern of climate change together.
