On 12 November 2014, 13.45 - 14.45 hrs., H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, attended the 12th ASEAN-India Summit at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-1 (MICC-1) in Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of the Myanmar. The Summit was chaired by H.E. General U Thein Sein, President of the Republic of the Union of the Myanmar. Also in attendance were the ASEAN Leaders and H.E. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

The Leaders discussed ways to further promote ASEAN - India Strategic Partnership in economic, political, security, social, and development cooperation. The Leaders welcomed the recent signing of the ASEAN - India FTA on Services and Investment last September and called for the early implementation of the agreements so that both sides can fully utilize the complete FTA, with a view to reach the bilateral trade target of 100 billion US dollars by 2015. The Leaders agreed to strengthen ASEAN - India connectivity in all its dimensions including physical, institutional and people-to-people linkages. In this regard, the Leaders committed to double their efforts for the early completion of the Thailand - Myanmar - India Trilateral Highway and concretized the project on extending the Highway to Lao PDR, Vietnam, and Cambodia. In addition, the Meeting agreed to cooperate more closely in tackling regional challenges of common concerns, including terrorism, money laundering, natural disasters, and cybercrime. Lastly, the Meeting reiterated the importance on development cooperation such as the establishment of ASEAN - India Centre. 

During the exchange of views on strategic issues, The Prime Minister of Thailand highlighted future ASEAN - India Cooperation as well as encouraged India to play a more constructive role in the region by engaging with ASEAN in its community building to create an environment that would be conducive to economic growth, peace, and stability in the region.

The Prime Minister also touched upon different aspects of cooperation in the following areas: (1) enhancing ASEAN-India economic partnership and to fully utilize ASEAN - India FTA to further increase trade volume and promote investment between the two sides (2) building up effective transportation network between ASEAN and India on land, sea and air and to harmonize rules and regulations to facilitate flows of goods, services, and people and (3) promoting exchanges of knowledge and innovation by utilizing each other expertise in various fields such as medicines, science, bio-technology and ICT.
