A Thai Film “Chiang Khan Story” Premiere was launched at Blitz Megaplex Grand Indonesia cinema in Jakarta on 25 October 2014. The event was part of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thailand Foundation’s project to promote Thai films and TV series in Indonesia. The Premiere was attended by the flim director (Mr.Yuthlert Sippapak), the leading actor (Mr.Jirayu La-ongmanee) and also Mr. Paskorn Siriyaphan, Thai Ambassador to Jakarta and Mr. Nithee Seeprae, Director of Thailand Tourism Office to Jakarta (TAT) who gave opening speeches.

“Chiang Khan Story” was very well received by the Indonesian audience as all the 600 seats in the Premiere were fully booked. Mr. Jirayu La-ongmanee personally handed out ten film’s posters with his autograph to the delight of his fans. A lucky draw of return ticket to Thailand was also given by the Thai Tourism office to the audience. The Premiere was a great success, after which the movie would be shown in the 15 cinemas in Jakarta and the suburbs.

Thai films and Thai leading actors have been popular in Indonesia during these past years making the country a potential market for Thai films.  As “Chiang Khan Story” was filmed in Chiang Khan district, Loei province, it is expected that the movie will also help promoting Thai tourism by introducing this new popular tourist destination to the Indonesian audience. In the past 3 years, 200,000 Indonesian tourists visited Thailand and the number has increased to 600,000 in 2013.
