On 13 October 2014, Mr. Luc Stevens, UN Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) paid a courtesy call on General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his assumption to the office, and to introduce UNCT and its activities in Thailand. 

Members of the UNCT comprised Ms. Mireille Girard, Representative in Thailand of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR),  Ms. Tatiana Shoumilina, Country Director, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Mr. Maurizio Bussi, Officer-in-Charge, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Ms. Roberta Clarke, Regional Director and Representative of UN-WOMEN

In the ensuing discussion, the  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Royal Thai Government’s commitment to enhance Thailand-UN partnership and cooperation to promote sustainable regional development in the context of the post-2015 development agenda. The UN representative noted the importance of the philosophy of sufficiency economy as well as various royal projects as an integral aspect for development.

Both sides further discussed avenues to strengthen the existing close cooperation in the areas of mutual interest in the framework of the United Nations in various issues, especially women empowerment, management of migrant labour and other irregular movement of people.  Thailand and UNCT renewed their commitment to work closely with relevant agencies to expedite these key areas of cooperation.
