On 29 August 2014, Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, attended the 6th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), held in Bali, Indonesia.

The UNAOC is a forum where different civilizations of the East and the West can constructively exchange experiences, views, and suggestions  in order to help counter the forces that fuel violence and extremism. The UNAOC 6th Global Forum under the theme of “Unity in Diversity” was attended by high- level representatives from over one hundred countries and organizations, including   Mr. Ban Ki Moon, the United Nations Secretary General.
On this occasion, the Deputy Permanent Secretary delivered a statement emphasizing the need of cooperation from peoples living in different cultures by sharing norms and values, in order to address global challenges in unity. The media with freedom of expression and social responsibility, as well as quality and accessible education are significant mechanisms in attaining peace, prosperity, and unity. ASEAN community in 2015 can well represent the Unity in Diversity of the region. The Deputy Permanent Secretary also used the occasion to inform the meeting of the recent political development in Thailand.

During the Global Forum, Thailand’s head of delegation also met with representatives from other countries to enhance bilateral relations, explain Thailand’s current political situation, as well as to seek support for Thailand’s candidature to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2015-2017 and Thailand’s candidature for a non - permanent seat of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2017-2018. Those representatives expressed their understanding on Thailand’s current situation and their willingness to cooperate with Thailand for further mutual interests at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
