On 25 August 2014, Ms. Pornprapai Ganjanarintr, Director-General of the Department of International Organisations, presided over the opening ceremony of the training workshop on “the Effective Implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions related to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destructions (WMDs)” at Narathip Auditorium, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The workshop was attended by officials from 34 government agencies, including the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the National Security Council, the National Intelligence Agency, the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance.

The training workshop was organised by the Department of International Organisations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the objective of strengthening knowledge and understanding regarding the implementation of UNSC resolutions related to the non-proliferation of WMDs in support of Thailand’s obligations as a Member State of the United Nations. Speakers included experts from the UN Secretariat in New York and a representative from the Department of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Commerce, who gave a lecture on “The Thai Trade Management System of Dual-Use Items: TMD”.

In her opening remarks, the Director-General of the Department of International Organisations reiterated Thailand’s commitment to the promotion of global peace and security in the UN framework. She expressed the hope that the training workshop would lead to enhanced knowledge and understanding of relevant Thai line agencies, as well as demonstrate and strengthen Thailand’s readiness and capacity to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council between 2017 – 2018.
