On 25-26 August 2014, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand will host the Regional Conference on “The Future of Security in the Asia-Pacific: Emerging Challenges, Promoting Conflict Management and Enhancing Cooperation in Maritime Areas” at the Sukhothai Hotel, Bangkok.


This track 1.5 conference aims to promote free flow of discussions and exchange of views on emerging challenges and assessments of current and future directions of regional peace and security in the Asia-Pacific. Discussions will focus on how to enhance trust and confidence, strengthen preventive diplomacy and manage conflict.

The Conference will feature keynote speakers, including Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Permanent Secretary and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, former Secretary-General of ASEAN. Panelists will include high-profile experts from governments and think-tanks from various countries such as Australia, China, India, Japan, Russia, Singapore, the United States, and Thailand.
