Thai Cultural Roadshow in Spain

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid, organized the Thai Cultural Roadshow in Spain during 10th – 27th June 2014. Mrs. Linna Tangthasiri, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, led the delegation consisting of traditional Thai dancers from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute and chefs from the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University to participate in Thai cultural events in Barcelona and Madrid. The Roadshow aimed to showcase Thai arts and culture to Spanish citizens and foreigners in Spain, in line with promoting people-to-people relations between Thailand and Spain under the Cultural Diplomacy and Public Diplomacy scheme. In addition, it is an opportunity to clarify on the political situation in Thailand and strengthen international confidence. 

During 12th – 14th June 2014, the delegation performed at "Thai Festival 2014" held at the La Maquinista mall in Barcelona. Thai food and beverage products as well as other services were on display, with cultural activities including Thai traditional massage demonstrations, fruit carving demonstrations, and Muay Thai boxing shows. Participants had opportunities to enjoy dancing alongside Thai traditional dancers. This event was co-organized with Team Thailand, consisting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand Tourism Authority of Thailand, Charoen Pokphand Foods, and Thai Airways. The estimated daily attendance was more than 500 persons.

During 17th – 25th June 2014, the delegation performed at "Thailand Gastronomic Week" held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid, where hotel restaurant guests were able to enjoy Thai cuisine and Thai cultural dance shows throughout the day. On 23rd June 2014, a "Thai Night" reception was held for more than 200 distinguished guests of the Royal Thai Embassy in Spain, including the diplomatic corps, members of the local press, the “Friends of Thailand” network, and members of the Thai community. Additionally on 24th June 2014, a Thai food preparation demonstration was held at the Pilar Latorre World Cuisine Cooking School.
