On 11 July 2014, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Acting Foreign Minister, had a bilateral discussion with Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and later with Mr. Yang Jiechi, State Councilor of the People's Republic of China respectively. Gist as follows:

Permanent Secretary Sihasak expressed his appreciation for the Chinese side’s understanding on the recent Thai political situation, and underscored Thailand’s commitment on its proactive role in foreign policy despite an ongoing democratic transition in Thailand.  He also updated Thailand’s political developments, including efforts to achieve the national reform and political stability by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) through the three-phase Roadmap.

The Permanent Secretary reiterated Thailand’s commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Thailand and China.  In this connection, Thailand expressed its readiness to enhance bilateral trade on agricultural products especially rice, rubber and tapioca, and to promote investments which Thailand supports the establishment of Chinese Industrial Estate in Thailand. Both sides agreed on promoting cultural exchange programmes, human resource development, and education as well as solving transnational crime and human trafficking issues.

On an occasion of the 40^th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and China in 2015. Both side agreed upon setting up proposes to set up a joint national committee to supervising commemorative activities—ranging from the royal visit and exchange of the high-level visit to promoting education, cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The Chinese government also welcomed the visit of General Prem Tinsulanonda, President of the Privy Council.                           ]

Thailand supported China’s initiative to establish the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to provide further funding for countries in Asia for developing infrastructure, enhancing connectivity in region, and promoting projects under the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. 

Regarding ASEAN-China relations, China expressed its appreciation to Thailand for its active and endeavors coordinatorship for the ASEAN-China relations.  The Permanent Secretary expressed Thailand’s wish for a comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and China, including expediting the negotiation process of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). China also urged for upgrading the Free Trade between ASEAN and China in order to promote regional prosperity.
