Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs attended the 2nd China – Thailand
Strategic Dialogue in Beijing


On 11 July 2014, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Permanent Secretary and Acting for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 2nd China – Thailand Strategic Dialogue in Beijing with Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.

Permanent Secretary Sihasak updated China on Thailand’s political development, including efforts to achieve the national reform by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) through the three-phase Roadmap with the main objective to restore political stability and create environment conducive to long-term economic development.

On the occasion of the 40th  anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China in this coming 2015, both sides attach high importance on organizing special events, while Thailand proposed to set up a national committee to manage this auspicious occasion.  Thailand also aimed to organize concrete activities such as an establishment of a fund for educational and cultural exchange program and 40th anniversary book to commemorate this celebration.

Regarding ASEAN-China relations, Thailand supported China’s initiative to establish the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to provide further funding for countries in Asia for developing infrastructure, enhancing connectivity in region, and promoting projects under the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity.  Thailand fully supported China to maintain the momentum and ensure progress in the South China Sea issue.  Thailand hopes that ASEAN-China relations will be a pillar for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
