Thailand Hosts the 6th AMCDRR Forum, Joining Asia-Pacific Countries in Setting Regional and Global Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction

Thailand has announced its readiness to welcome high-profile governmental and ministerial-level delegations as well as representatives from intergovernmental and international organisations from 63 countries in the Asia-Pacific region to the Sixth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (6th AMCDRR) on 22 – 26 June 2014 at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld in Bangkok.

M.L. Panadda Diskul, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Interior and Acting Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, said: “Thailand, by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation , Ministry of Interior and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has scheduled to hold the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on 22 – 26 June 2014 at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld
in Bangkok.

“The conference, which will focus on the theme “Promoting Investments for Resilient Nations and Communities’, will draw more than 2,500 high-profile governmental and ministerial-level delegations as well as representatives from intergovernmental and international organisations to discuss the Framework for Action to Manage Disaster Risk for Asia and the world at large.

“Thailand is ready to host this Conference and be a part in building resilient Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Chatchai Phromlert, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said: “The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation as the Conference Secretariat recognises the importance of promoting multilateral contribution to stimulate the sharing of experiences, achievements, challenges and lessons learned among participants. We have organised various activities including High Level Round Table, Technical Sessions, Side Events, Market Place, Video Clip Competition and Field Trip to visit His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s highly-efficient water management project.

“This Conference is expected to foster stronger commitment on disaster risk reduction among countries in Asia-Pacific, making it a resilient region with the most efficient disaster risk management with aster sustainable programmes in place.”

Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva, said: “The 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction is a forum where member states will adopt consensus on disaster risk reduction over the next decade under the Hyogo Framework for Action 2, after the Hyogo Framework for Action ends in 2015. This is the last inter-governmental meeting for member states to discuss on disaster risk reduction, share experiences and propose Framework for Action. The inputs from this Conference will be tabled at the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (3WCDRR) to take place in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan.

Pol.Maj.Gen.Varatchai Sriratanavudhi,  Commander of Special Task Planning Division, The Royal Thai Police Commissioner, said: “The Royal Thai Police has prepared top safety and security measure for the conference and delegates. Police officers from Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Special Branch Police will be stationed at and around the conference venue and locations for field-culture trips. A special traffic plan will be in place and motorcade from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the Conference venue at Centara Grand Hotel will be organised for high-ranking government officials. The Royal Thai Police is prepared for this conference security.
