He was welcome by Mr. Alexey Rodioniov, Acting Dean of Eastern Language Faculty, together with a group of the 1st year Russian students of Thai Studies and the Thai students from Thammasart University of Thailand who are currently taking a short course of Russian language at the University.
On this occasion, the Thai ambassador gave, for the use of the “Thai Room”, an additional collection of more than 30 books on Thailand and the study of Thai language. He also encouraged the Thai students in Russian language as it is not only useful and advantageous for themselves but also for the country.
The Royal Thai Government considers necessary and gives priority to increase the numbers of those who earn good knowledge of Russia and Russian language. So far the students who graduated in this field are in high demand in Thailand particularly in resort cities. Most of them have been recruited for a good work with high salary.
The “Thai Room” at the University of St. Petersburg was the first Thai Room in Russia which was officially opened on July 3, 2012, the date which coincided with 115 anniversary of Thai - Russian Diplomatic Relations. There are also other two “Thai Rooms” in Russian Universities; one at the Moscow University and the other, 'Thai Room / Muay Thai Room' at the Ural Federal University.
