The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Thailand Foundation and the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, the Royal Thai Consulate-Generals in Kunming, Chengdu and Guangzhou organized “The Muay Thai Roadshow in China” from 5 – 18 May 2014 throughout the mentioned cities. “Thai Fight”, one of the most well-known Thai boxing groups, introduced to the audiences of both the Chinese and foreigners the various distinct aspects of Muay Thai – the Wai Kru dance, boxing and kicking techniques, and diverse fighting scenes consisting of Thai fighters from a spectrum of ages, especially talented young boxers.

The roadshow was organized to promote Thai image and ‘Thainess’ through Muay Thai as well as to present the art in its traditional form for the Chinese and expatriates in China. The event was highly received and praised by audiences nationwide. In Beijing, where the grand opening and the event was hosted on 6 May 2014 at JW Marriot Beijing, more than 500 attendees were present including diplomats, media and enthusiastic fans of the sport. In Kunming, the boxing group showcased Muay Thai at the 6th Thai Festival at South Asia Top City from 9 - 11 May 2014, attracting more than 2,000 spectators, particularly young people and press. In Chengdu, the roadshow was congruent with the grand closing of the 9th Thai Festival on 14 May 2014 at Sichuan TV Tower with approximately 800 attendees consisting of foreign consular delegates, local Chengdu authorities and spectators. Additionally, the Thai Fight group also participated in a demonstration and exchange of martial arts with Chengdu Sport University and Sichuan Tourism University, promoting cultural diplomacy and strengthening Thai and Chinese people-to-people connection. From 16 – 17 May at LN Garden Hotel in Guangzhou, the roadshow was attended by more than 1,000 people consisting of consulate members, local and national Chinese press, as well as Thai and Chinese entrepreneurs.
