Myanmar, as Chair of ASEAN for 2014, will host the 24th ASEAN Summit during 10-11 May 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw under the theme “Moving Forward in Unity to a peaceful and prosperous community”. The ASEAN Leaders will also meet with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Civil Society Organizations, and Youths with a view to promoting participation by all sectors of the society to build a people-centred ASEAN Community.

The 24th ASEAN Summit will provide an opportunity for ASEAN Leaders to review progress in ASEAN Community building and identify priority issues that need to be expedited, as well as set future directions of ASEAN in the context of setting the ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision. Leaders will also exchange views on important regional and international issues.

At the 24th ASEAN Summit, the Thai delegation will focus on the acceleration of ASEAN Community building in key areas such as promotion of shared norms and values, elimination of non-tariff measures, harmonization of rules and regulations, and addressing trans-boundary challenges, as well as developing ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision and strengthening the ASEAN Secretariat and reviewing the ASEAN Organs, which are key to maintaining ASEAN as a region of peace and prosperity and enhancing ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture.
