On 20 March 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires participated in the “Francophonie in Buenos Aires 2014” festival in Argentina to promote a greater understanding of Thailand, especially Thai food. This year, the Embassy of Congo is the chair and the theme of the event is “Green Francophonie” in order to promote environmental preservation and sustainable development.

In the morning, Ambassador Medha Promthep attended the ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship’s auditorium. Activities include remarks delivery by Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and other dignitaries, awards presentation for the winners of photography competition, French song singing, cultural performance of Congo’s local tribe, bicycle riding by ambassadors and diplomatic corps as a symbol to promote environmental protection, and wreath laying by ambassadors at General San Martin Monument.

In the afternoon, the Embassy displayed a booth in San Martin Plaza featuring Thai food (Massaman Nua with rice and fried crispy squid), fruit and vegetable carving, as well as promoting tourism in Thailand, Thai cooking, Thai condiments displaying (those that are available in Buenos Aires), information on visa application to Thailand, and the role of Thailand in environmental preservation and sustainable development. The event also featured art and culture of different countries and booth displaying from 22 countries.

This festival was originated in 2011 when member countries of Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie - OIF in Argentina (Thailand has been an observer of the OIF since 2008), led by Swiss Embassy, initiated activities organized by French speaking countries in Argentina (GRPF). The activities include teaching and learning French in order to promote the use of French language in Argentina as well as booth displaying to promote a better understanding of the member countries. Thailand, as an observer, has regularly taken part to promote Thai food and the country every year.
