The Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), organized a seminar titled “Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India 2014: Beyond the Middle-Income Trap”, on 16 December 2013 at Narathip Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The seminar was attended by representatives from government and private agencies, academia, as well as diplomatic missions and foreign chambers of commerce based in Thailand.
The Economic Outlook 2014, which highlights the middle-income trap and an assessment of national structural policy reforms and medium-term development plans, was presented by Mr. Kensuke Tanaka, Head of Asia of OECD Development Centre, followed by stimulating discussions on the findings by representatives from the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) and International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD).
The Economic Outlook is the OECD’s annual publication on Asia’s economic growth, development and regional process, with a focus on ASEAN countries as well as China and India. It provides an annual update of regional economic trends and challenges with a thematic focus for each volume and country-specific structural policy notes. The Economic Outlook is a channel through which informed policy dialogue and better understanding between Southeast Asian and OECD member countries can be fostered.
