Thai government provides relief assistance to the Philippines for typhoon Haiyan

On Tuesday 19 November 2013 at 13:30 hrs, Dr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand, presented a gift of US$ 200,000 (around 6 million baht) to Her Excellency Jocelyn S. Batun Garcia, Ambassador of the Philippines to Thailand, as part of Thailand’s contribution to the Government of the Philippines for disaster relief following the devastation caused by typhoon Haiyan.

Thailand’s assistance to the Philippines to date on this matter may be summarized as follows:

Summary of Thailand’s Assistance to the Philippines (as of 19 November 2013)

o His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Thailand and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm have donated food and other aid items for disaster relief in the form of 7,000 disaster relief packages
o Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali has donated 5,000 relief packages and 100 mobile tent units, along with milk formula for infants, 5 hundred thousand sachets of water purification solution and a mobile water filtering unit
o A government appeal through Channel 11 Television on 11 November  2013 has collected
83 million baht (ca. US$ 2.7 million) in financial donations from the Thai public
o The Thai Red Cross has made an initial donation of US$ 100,000
o The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a donation of US$ 200,000
o The Stock Exchange of Thailand has made a donation of 1 million baht (ca. US$ 33,000)
o Financial donations through Channel 3 Television news of 22 million baht (ca. US$ 73,000)

Furthermore, on 19 November 2013 at 08.00 hours, 2 Royal Thai Air force C-130 aircraft began airlift operations to bring disaster relief to the Philippines which included:

1. 1,000 disaster relief packages from HRH The Crown Prince and HRH Princess Srirasm
2. 1,000 disaster relief packages from HRH Princess Soamsawali
3. Basic medicines from the Ministry of Health

It is expected that 2 more C-130 Royal Thai Air Force aircraft will join relief operations by the end of the week (possibly Thursday 21 November 2013).
