     On 17 October 2013, H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden, and his wife, Mrs. Viyada as well as an official from the Royal Thai Embassy attended the Award Ceremony of the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child 2013.  The Award Ceremony was organized by the World’s Children’s Prize Foundation at Gripsholm Castle, Mariefred, and presided over by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. 

     This year the World’s Children’s Prize International Jury selected three most outstanding candidates for the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child, the prestigious prize which is regarded as a Nobel Prize for the Rights of the Child.  Mr. Sompop Jantraka, a Thai person who is the founder of the Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities Centre, among the three nominees, received the World’s Children’s Honorary Award for campaigning against the child sex trade and helping vulnerable children in the “Golden Triangle for more than 25 years.  H.E. Ambassador congratulated Mr. Sompop for receiving this global prize and commended him for his great sacrifice and devotion which has been recognized by people around the world and for a good reputation he brought to Thailand.  On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador invited Mr. Sompop and his family as well as a hill tribal girl accompanying Mr. Sompop to visit the Embassy.
