On 8 October 2013 H.E. Mr. Anuson Chinvanno, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Thailand, presented cultural artifacts and objects to Mr. Vo Quang Trong, Director of the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, with participation of the Embassy’s and Museum’s staffs and the local media. The hand-over ceremony is the result of the Museum’s plan to include Thai cultural artifacts in its collection of Southeast Asian cultural objects. This matter was raised at the 2nd Joint Cabinet Retreat held in Hanoi in 2012, during which the Ministry of Culture of Thailand agreed to support the Museum with cultural artifacts. In the opening remarks, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam emphasized that these cultural objects and artifacts would be an important symbol of cultural cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam while the Museum Director stated that these cultural objects and artifacts would help enhance public awareness of Thai culture as well as become a highlight of the Southeast Asian culture exhibition at the new Southeast Asia Building which is scheduled to open in late 2013. These cultural artifacts and objects include a traditional puppet (Hun Krabok), traditional ghost masks (Phi Ta Khon masks), maps of dispersion of Thai Ethnic groups, books and video introducing Thai ethnic, traditional cultural and artistic performances of the Thai people.
