His Excellency Mr. Sebastián Piñera, President of the Republic of Chile, will pay an Official Visit to Thailand as Guest of the Royal Thai Government from 4 to 5 October 2013. This visit to Thailand will take place before President Piñera’s attendance at the 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Bali, Indonesia.

This will be the first Official Visit of a President of Chile to Thailand since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1962. It thus marks a significant milestone in Thailand-Chile relations, providing a good opportunity for both countries to strengthen ties of friendship and enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual interests.

During the visit, the President of the Republic of Chile will have a bilateral meeting with Her Excellency Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to exchange views on ways to enhance bilateral relations, promote trade and investment and strengthen development cooperation. In this regard, the President and the Prime Minister will witness the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Chile, Thailand’s first comprehensive FTA with a Latin American country. Apart from the FTA, the two countries will sign the MoU of Trilateral Technical Cooperation in International Development and the Letter of Intent on Astronomical Cooperation. The Chilean President will also meet with the Thai business community to strengthen
ties between the private sectors of the two countries.
