Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) announces lifting of

the Internal Security Act B.E. 2551 (2008) (ISA)

On 9 August 2013, the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) announced the lifting of the Internal Security Act (ISA) which was put into effect between 1-10 August 2013 in three districts of Bangkok, namely, Dusit, Phra Nakhon, and Pom Prap Sattru Phai. The purpose of the ISA was to maintain law and order, prevent any untoward incidents and ensure that the work of the Parliament can proceed. During the time the ISA was in effect, police officers under the CAPO exercised utmost restraint and there were minimal incidents and arrests due to cooperation from the general public and all sides. Demonstrations remained orderly and there was no incident of violence. The Parliament continues to function normally and without obstruction. Due to the easing of the situation, the Prime Minister of Thailand, upon the recommendation of the CAPO, has decided to lift the ISA as of today. The Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police apologized to the public and foreign visitors for any inconvenience caused by the imposition of the ISA.
