On 17 July 2013, Mr. Markiian Chuchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister welcomed and informed the Ukrainian Ambassador that the Prime Minister had accepted the invitation of the Ukrainian Government to pay an official visit to Ukraine at a mutually convenient time next year.  He expressed his appreciation for Ukraine’s offer to host the 1st Meeting of the Thai-Ukrainian Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation in Kiev in 2014.  Thai side would later propose to the Ukrainian side the date to hold a Consultation and Cooperation Meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries.                       
 
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong also commended Ukraine’s active role as the current chair of the Organization for security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).  He reiterated Thailand’s readiness to participate in the next OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Kiev during 5 - 6 December 2013, during which he would also pay an official visit to Ukraine to prepare for the Prime Minister’s visit and the signing of several important bilateral agreements.
      
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister thanked the Ukrainian Ambassador for his country’s support for Thailand in international elections, especially on Thailand’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the terms 2017 – 2018 and membership in the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the terms 2015 – 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong also updated Ambassador Chuchuk on Thailand’s plan to open an embassy in Kiev.  He welcomed Ukraine’s decision to set up an honorary consulate in Pattaya.
