On 17 June 2013, Ms. Patchanee Kithavorn, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, as representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, handed over ancient weapons in the collection of Vice Admiral Phraya Chonlayutthayothin (Andreas Richelieu) to Rear Admiral (RADM) Surapong Amnucksoradeja, Deputy Director-General, Naval Education Department of the Royal Thai Navy, to be exhibited at the Naval Museum in Samut Prakarn Province.
Those weapons were in the collection of Vice Admiral Andreas Richelieu, a Danish national, and were held by the Richelieu family in Denmark for safekeeping. Vice Admiral Richelieu was granted the Thai noble title Phraya Chonlayutthayothin and served as commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). He also played a significant role in the Franco-Siamese War and laid the foundation for the present Royal Thai Navy.
