The  Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Thai Red Cross Society,  will hold the Sixth Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Lecture on International Humanitarian Law on Wednesday, 19 June 2013 at 9:00 hours at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as Executive Vice-President of the Thai Red Cross Society, will preside over the lecture.

The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Lecture Series is aimed at promoting greater understanding and research of international humanitarian law, the legal corpus that defines the conduct and responsibilities of belligerents in relation to non-combatants.

This year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Red Cross Society are honoured to have Professor Vitit Muntarbhorn, Professor of Law at Chulalongkorn University, deliver his lecture entitled “International Commissions of Inquiry, Human Rights and Humanitarian Law: the United Nations, Syria and Beyond” , in which he will share his experience in working for the United Nations as Chairman of Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ivory Coast and as the Commissioner on the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.

The lecture is expected to be attended by invited guests including government ministers, heads of diplomatic missions, Members of Parliament, high-ranking public officials, representatives from international organizations and non-governmental organizations, university professors and students, students from the Royal Thai Army Schools and the Royal Police Cadet Academy, as well as members of the press.
